15 Apr 2026 Themes Clouds; Spring-Flowers: Mikky

One of Mikky’s favorite subject is Flowers and he works particularly hard at achieving the right bokeh (amount of blur) using lens aperture. Depth of field in macro photography is always challenging. It’s use can be creative and, at the same time, critical for focusing on the subject or feature of interest. He shared a set of vibrant colorful flower photos and some more subtle & delicate.
Mikky also shared a great shot of Clouds over Bryce Canyon, a wonderful destination for landscape photographers.

17 Dec 2025 Holidays, Weather, Portraits: Mikky

Mikky visits India frequently and his portraits capture the warmth of his subjects & the culture. One of the motivations for the Portraits theme this month was his excellent “passion-project” portfolio of portraits from Jan 2025. But the majority of this month’s photos were black & white seascapes (SIO “ScrippsHenge”) & Bryce Canyon landscapes. A style of photography he hasn’t shared before so the group may be influencing his photography. I know the shared photos have inspired mine.

19 Feb 2025 Passion Project/Minimalism: Mikky

Mikky has a future African safari trip planned so he’s been practicing with a new camera and 100-400mm zoom lens. Although mirrorless cameras and lenses are supposed to be smaller and lighter, his Nikon system will test his baggage packing efficiency. The airlines to Africa have difficult weight restrictions to meet. But when traveling on such a once-in-a-lifetime photography safari, you want to bring gear that will capture the best images. Here are his practice images, many from San Diego’s Safari Park. His male lion photos are a rarity since I’ve never seem him during my many visits.
