John shared some King Tide images from Del Mar’s dog beach taken in 2019-2020 where the King Tides obviously affected beach access. But he returned to the same spot this last King Tide Jan 3rd to try photographing a third image. But the addition of 750k of sand in Carlsbad had transported down the coast and changed the Del Mar’s beach topography. So trying to continue the King Tide series will have to wait till, hopefully, the longshore current flattens Dog Beach.
John shared some great images taken during our Nov 1st Old Town Dios de los Muertos meetup. Although four of us participated in the festival photography, John manage to capture some unique portraits of the costume celebrators. He found & photographed some of the best head-dresses I’ve seen. John visited the venue a week earlier (Oct 25th) when it was just setup and less crowded than the Nov festival weekend.
For moonrise, John photographed the moon in and above Junipero Sierra church at Presidio Park San Diego. The framing of the moonrise in the church window is another unique perspective vs the moon over the foreground feature we typically compose.
John shared an image of the moonrise over San Diego in tribute to our founding group leader Jerry Vaughn. He gave us the sad news that Jerry passed away Oct 10th. His comment that he and Jerry had similar images taken at that meetup.
John shared a couple images he took that combined both themes – flowers and frames. Clever, creative fun when you can combine themes into a single image.
John missed the meeting but shared a great photo of an owl – something I’m always looking to photograph.
John’s one of the more experienced and technically capable members of the group. I know he shoots a lot of photos that follow his own interests. But he shares theme-related images every group meeting. He doesn’t share an eclectic batch like many of us, but pick a few awesome images.
John had an alternate perspective on ‘birds & wildlife’, sharing some fun photo from the San Diego Holiday Bowl parade. They did fit the theme with only a slight stretch of the imagination.
John shared some recent images of his work on the Star of India, a particularly well-choreographed group photo of the 100+ crew.
