17 Dec 2025 Holidays, Weather, Portraits: Heather

Heather loves her compact (micro-four-thirds) Panasonic GX85 and never ceases to amaze us with the quality of her images. She has a great eye and timing especially with people photos. Her Do Dah Parade portrait is particularly strong and we think worthy of submission to the SD Fair. She proposes a Pasadena meetup in Nov 2026 for the parade. Her other portrait was from our Dios de los Muertos meetup Nov 1st. Other images were weather-themed and had great depth. Her backup camera is an iPhone proving the best camera is the one you have handy.

15 Oct 2025 Themes Fall, Scary/Halloween, & Moonrise: Heather

We’ve been meeting via Zoom since 2020 when Covid made in-person gatherings off-limits. Although years have past, the UCSD Photography Interest Group continues our monthly meeting via Zoom. This makes it possible for participants who are traveling to still join in. Heather was in Idaho during our October 15th meeting. She was able to upload her Idaho Fall images and join the meeting remotely – nice! Her are her Fall photos from Idaho:

17 Sep 2025 Themes Still Life & Storytelling: Heather

Heather share a variety of still life ‘formats’ – classical and storytelling. Her garden images tells of a abundant seasonal harvest. Her ‘classic-style’ tabletop still life images are excellent and humorous. She also had a beautiful abstract pattern image that was hard to decipher – mold.
The cherry tomato and peppers still life was one of the best images shared. Her explanation of cooling down the Japanese beetle in the refrigerator so they would ‘pose’ for a short time was entertaining and educational. Her bug & book still lifes were also favorites of the meeting.

20 Nov 2024 Themes Planes, Trains, Automobiles; Dia De Los Muertos: Heather

Heather had a great time at the Dia de los Muertos celebration Nov 2nd in Old Town San Diego. All the photos she shared were from this outing. It’s easy to see why since, like myself, editing the number of great shots down to 10 was challenging. She really enjoyed photographing the people gathered & celebrating. Heather snapped some great candids, but also enjoyed interacting with her subjects. She said they were all very gracious and cooperative photographic subjects. I find her ability to capture the more intimate moments of human interaction & behavior something I need to strive to do. I think that’s what can elevate an image from a snapshot. Heather used a Panasonic GX85 with 35-100mm zoom (micro-four thirds, so 70-200mm effectively).
