Gary spend a lot of time outdoors and on the water. Much of his photography is focused on his trips and travels, even locally. He has a 17ft skiff he’s renovated and uses regularly around San Diego Bay. He shared photos of his beloved boat on the shoreline of San Diego Bay. Additionally, he’s been experimenting with an iPhone app, Waterlogue, that converts photos into watercolor images. He’s been really happy with the result and how easy the app is to use. Gary shared three color-themed photos this month. His backyard, the last few months, has been a great location to photograph. Just goes to show you don’t have to travel far to find great photos.
Gary’s been busy re-landscaping his backyard and fortunately he’s come across some spontaneous image opportunities. Which are often harder than planned images. He only had two this month and they weren’t theme-related but any great shots are always welcome.
Gary shared mainly final edited images although he discussed the post-processing steps of images from his recent Yosemite trip. He also photographed the new Osprey pair nesting at Shelter Island. It took his several trips to get the right conditions for his favorite keepers.
Gary loves his Nikon 100-400mm zoom lens image quality and each week shares photos displaying tack-sharp images. This week he photographed a nesting Osprey on Shelter Island, San Diego. You’d never suspect they were taken in strong winds; his use of fast shutter speeds and image stabilization generated excellent results. For the street theme, he used his iPhone at the San Diego courthouse. Catching unique reflections of an old San Diego building in a modern glass building facade.
Gary seems to always be on the road somewhere photogenic. This month was no difference and he shared some great images from one of his regular spots – Yosemite. Like many of us, he hops between a mirrorless camera system with interchangeable lenses and his iPhone. Check out the Raven black&white iPhone image – amazing what that cell phone camera can do.

Gary took a recent trip to Australia-New Zealand during our winter – their summer. He particularly like Australia’s wonderful beaches, especially Manly Beach, and the city of Sydney. New Zealand travel hit many sites from Lord of the Rings.
