Cathy’s been traveling recently so many of the photos she shared were taken during her travels. Plus she has a new iPhone now which has a great camera. She also participated in last month’s moonrise outing but did not share anything new. You can view her moonrise images in her Sept 2024 album. Here are this meeting’s photos:
I participated in the full moon meetup on Sept 17th at Ski Beach Mission Bay. Photographing the moon during blue hour is always challenging especially when there are clouds. Fortunately, there was only a narrow band of low clouds above the moon horizon. With some post-processing and compositing of my moon over USD campus, here are my best images so far.
To follow the Above/Below theme, I went to Oceanside Harbor beach in search of shore birds. There were none so I made the best of it, opting to shoot surfers from the jetty. Fortunately, with a low tide and great conditions, I spent 90mins capturing thousands of images. Shooting from the jetty will hopefully qualify as “Above” eye-level. Surf photography is something I’ve wanted to do since seeing Barbara’s award winning photo she showed in August.
Sharon has a flare capturing images with wit or that tell a story or pose a question. Her “below” eye-level photos this month do just that and they always spark conversation. Her “above” images of the Blue Angels fly-by taken by her iPhone show the wonderful image quality that cell phone has. Freezing a Blue Angels jet so you can read the wing is an impressive example of computational photography. The images an iPhone can capture, whether its freezing time or long exposures of Comet A3, never ceases to amaze me. Here are her photos:
Heather seems to always be traveling somewhere and most of what she’s shared during the meeting are travel photos that match the theme. She also shared some wonderful, technically excellent dissecting microscope photos – a subject that’s been discussed at previous meetings. Here are the photos she shared this month:
Gary participated in the Sept 17th moonrise meet-up at Mission Bay and shared his favorite shot. He enjoys photographing the animals at San Diego Safari Park and had a great shot of a young flamingo with ungainly legs. He like the affect of his duck image flip on it side and had some great macro images. Here are the photos he shared:
Participants of our Oct 16th photography interest group Zoom meeting shared a variety of images with most following one of this month’s themes. The Above/Below theme criteria was images captured at any viewpoint other than typical eye-level. Fall was a continuation of September’s autumn theme, fall colors or events. Barbara participated on the Sept 17th full moon meetup at Ski Beach on Mission Bay. She shared some great shots of the moon rising over USD. In addition, she shared images of a squirrel (for Below eye-level) and two bee macro shots. Her bee photos were added during our meeting’s discussion of Gary’s bee photos which he presented for the below eye-level theme.
